Sapienza (which in Italian means "Wisdom") is the second largest island of Messinian Oinousses after Schiza and is located opposite the castle of Methoni.
ATTRACTIONS
While enjoying the view at the north part of the castle,opposite of Methoni,you may stare at a unique creek with an amazing beach called Ammos.
On the south side you will meet the large stone lighthouse. It was built in 1885 at the request of Queen Victoria of England.
NATURE
Sapienza is the only place in the world where the arbutus, which we all know are shrubs, turn into trees,as they have also formed an entire forest, known as ' Kumarodasos', which extends over 240 acres. Due to its rarity it is listed as a monument of nature hence the reason which lists Sapienza as part of the Natura 2000 network.The island which combines wildlife and flora with crystal clear sea waters with it's unique exotic color,will surely be an unforgettable experience for each one of you.!
On the island you will also meet a large number of Kri Kri* that live and breed here
