Those who have visited Methoni say that one must go there just to see its castle. And they are right. Why; Because the castle of Methoni is one of the largest and most impressive in the Mediterranean and occupies the entire area of the cape of the southwest coast of Messinia.
The castle of Methoni reaches all the way to the sea and ends at Bourtzi, the fortified islet with the octagonal tower built on the south side. A moat separates it from the mainland. The fortress has a polygonal shape and, with its enormous volume, gives the city of Methoni an air of grandeur.
