Koroni

Koroni is a picturesque coastal town of Messinia. It is famous for The Venetian castle, which dominates the city all over.

In ancient times, in today's Koroni, the ancient city of Asini was located, while ancient Koroni was located further north in the current position of Petalidi. According to Pausanias, there are two versions of its name. The first version states that Koroni took its name from Koronia in Boeotia as settlers from this city founded it. In the second version, it took its name from a bronze crown (coin) found during the construction of its walls.
